Team Captain Resources

What are my responsibilities as Team Captain?

Team Captains play a key leadership role in the Kentucky Legal Food Frenzy, encouraging colleagues to participate and helping the team earn as many dollars and points as possible.

  • Register your team on the Kentucky Legal Food Frenzy campaign site here. Once registered, share the link with your office and anyone else who might support you.
  • Make a Legal Food Frenzy plan for your office. Set a points goal and outline activities to reach it by March 27, 2026. Financial donations are easiest, but there are many ways to earn points. See the “Rules” tab for details on how to earn points.
  • Choose fundraising ideas that will motivate your co-workers. Check out the suggestions below!
  • Get inspired! Visit your local food bank or invite a food bank representative to speak to your team. See contacts below. Your team can earn 500 points for volunteering!
  • At the end of the campaign, fill out the Google form sent to captains on March 23, 2026, so we can tally your points.

Involve your organization’s leadership in planning your Legal Food Frenzy efforts. Ask your Managing Partner(s) to match donations. The best campaigns have attorneys who lead by example and involve the whole office.

Fundraising Ideas

Monetary donations are the best way to earn points for your team and make the most impact for Kentuckians struggling with food insecurity. Brainstorm fun ways to engage and motivate your colleagues to participate. Some ideas:

  • Match Day: Leadership agrees to match all donations collected on a certain day or up to a certain amount.
  • Lunch for the Hungry Day: everyone contributes what they would normally spend on lunch or have a group provide lunch for the office and everyone who attends can donate what they’d like.
  • Jeans/Casual Dress: Employees donate $5-10 to dress casually for a day or week.
  • “Buy Out”: Employees who donate a certain amount get to enjoy a perk like skipping a meeting, leaving 30 minutes early, or having an extra-long lunch. Set prices and let employees “purchase” relief.
  • Office Raffle: Sell tickets for prizes. A prime parking spot for a week, local event tickets, gift cards, extra PTO hour, etc.
  • Office Bake Off or Chili Cook Off: Entry fee and fee to taste/vote.
  • Pay-what-you-can Potluck: Everyone brings a dish and donates to eat.
  • Pie an Attorney: Top fundraiser/donor gets to pie the attorney of their choice.
  • Trivia Lunch Hour: Teams pay an entry fee and compete to win prizes.
  • Department/Floor Competition: Split your office into teams and award a prize for the highest contributors.
  • Award a prize for all employees who participate if your office wins its

Tips for Success:

  • Boost donations with company matching.
  • Show daily donation totals in high-traffic areas or announce them by email and at meetings to keep everyone engaged.
  • Share why the Legal Food Frenzy and Feeding Kentucky matter; see the “Hunger in Kentucky” tab for details.
  • Organize a volunteer day at your local food bank to earn extra points; see the “Volunteer Opportunities” tab for info.
  • Invite a food bank speaker to discuss hunger and your office’s impact on your community.
  • Invite clients and family to donate using your team’s link. Spread the word with #KyLegalFoodFrenzy on social media, email, and phone!
  • Share the donation link with teammates and community. Donations also accepted by check to Feeding Kentucky, PO Box 5522, Frankfort, KY 40602 (postmark by 3/27/26).

  • Post progress towards your monetary goal to raise awareness and encourage others to donate to your team.
  • Post a team photo with your canned donations or collection box.
  • Have someone in leadership make a matching gift announcement. Sample: “Great news! We are matching donations for the 10th Annual Kentucky Legal Food Frenzy today only. Double your impact for Feeding Kentucky! [Include Donation Link]”
  • Thank you shout-out: “Thanks to your generosity, we’ve raised $___ so far for Feeding Kentucky in the 10th Annual Kentucky Legal Food Frenzy. Let’s keep going!”
